March Daily Photo Challenge

So it seems I'm not so good with this blogging thing. I like to think it's due to starting a new job and working crazy hours over Christmas then dealing with stupidly low iron levels but it's probably due to the fact that I have the attention span of a... oooh is that a helicopter I hear? I mean a 2 year old. Attention span of a 2 year old. Anyhow, I've decided to set myself a challenge. I'd like to take my camera out of the auto setting and see what I can do with it, so what better way to practice than with a list of things to capture?

I found this by googling 'photo a day challenge' and chose it simply because I like the polka dots.  Without much further ado, I bring to you....

Something That Makes You Smile

Sometimes, even when I'm alone,I'll pick one of these and make a wish as I blow on it - sending the 'fairies' into the air. Don't judge.
I used a ring to reverse mount my lens for this, it turns a normal lense into a macro.

DAY 2
Water

I hate how overexposed this is, I was too busy figuring out the perfect shutter speed to remember the other settings. Doh! However I love the blur of the water which is why I've included it.

I'm not sure if I'll upload these daily, or just take them daily and post them as a group whenever. Probably the latter. Hopefully the former. I'll just be happy if I can stick to it actually.

Christmas Prep - Handcrafted Decorations

I'm not going to lie, I love Christmas. I love the events in the lead up, the anticipation, the excitement, the music... in fact here is some for your listening pleasure

First song you've heard this year? You're Welcome...

Being this far out I start making decorations. The tree goes up on December 1st and I'm slowly working towards having my house decorated completely with handmade items.

A Selection of Last Years

I don't plan on having a theme, or chosen colour range. I prefer traditional colours, a little bit vintage and yet a little yet modern. Mix it with a whole lot of 'made with love' items brought home from Kindy and School and I think I will have something that is a bit 'us'.

Here is my inspiration, feel free to follow or share below with your favourite handcrafted decorations and ideas.

Dialled Indoor Tramp Park

Last week we visited the Tramp Park in Auckland so I thought I would post a review. I was too busy jumping and throwing small children into the foam pit to take any photos myself so you will have to use your imagination (or check out their website.)

The actual Trampoline area is quite small. My children are 3, 5 & 7 and all three found it hard (and scary) with the much older children jumping with them. I think perhaps there needs to be an age limit or separate sessions for different age groups. Or even a limit on how many can bounce at once. That said we managed to not have any injuries.

Each admission is for an hour, which is plenty of time. We left after 40 minutes, this Mama just couldn't take any more. Jumping is tiring! I had to promise ice cream to get my kids out of there early, they were having such a GREAT time.

Admission is $12 for an hour, I managed to score a 2 for 1 voucher from Grabone which made it a bit cheaper. Adults are free with a Preschooler.

Would we go back? The kids enjoyed it it so most likely. Perhaps not during the school holidays or when it's likely to be busy however.

There's also a really cool skate/scooter park but we didn't try that out. Maybe next time.

Random Thoughts

  • I'm feeling stabbity today. A combination of school holidays, bad weather and people who constantly use the word 'youse' - which I'm sure isn't even a word - does not make for a happy Kat.
  • If you say you're going to ring someone by a certain time, do it. I don't have forever to spend waiting for a phone call.
  •  Crochet Collars, love em or loathe em? Can't decide. Need to make one I think.
  •  Miss 3 slept all night in her own bed and it was amaaaaaazing.
  •  I only recently found out Pollyanna is a book. It was one of my favourite moves as a child and reading the book as an adult made me fall in love with it all over again. Must find a copy of the movie for Miss 7.
  •  We spent the day at Waiwera yesterday. I'm sure the adults were more tired than the kids.
  • I can't listen to this song enough

Creating with the Kids

Awhile ago I made a bunch of these paper dresses for the girls bedroom. At the start of the holidays, when we were planning our activities Miss 7 asked to make some.

I forgot about them until today, the weather is pretty horrible so it's the perfect day to stay at home and craft. They were probably a bit too fiddly for Miss 7 but she did pretty well. Sometimes the act of making is more enjoyable than having a finished item anyway.

I still have a bunch of paper left. I might have to find some origami that's a bit easier for her.
